Resume: 

The article examines the national regulation of the protection of the rights of compatriots abroad, the definition of the concept of «compatriot» is given, features, directions and mechanisms for the protection of their rights are listed. The author examines some aspects of international legal regulation in the field of human rights in the context of the Russian Federation’s protection of the rights of compatriots abroad, regardless of Russian citizenship. The author pays attention to the development of a regional mechanism for the protection of human rights within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
